Amanda’s House is a Plein air study out her window on Biscay Pond in late October 2020. This is one of the most incredible times of year in Maine. The leaves have turned color and soon will be blown off to start late autumn and early winter. This time of year is precious.

Time is tracked by the changing of light. My energy seems to redirect when the sun starts setting. It takes a disciplined mindset to keep your brain focused at night. I have spent many years near the equator, where the light changes seem to stay the same. In fact, there are really no seasons, just slight changes in the angle of light and temperature.

The forest and the water are both a great place to bathe. The winter will be cold, but during the height of summer, this lake is warm and fresh. Just walking through the woods is therapeutic. The height and hug of the trees seems to suck all the bad out of me. The forest seems to demand respect. The dappled light. The smell. The wonderful peace.

Amanda’s House is a special place of healing to me. I loved painting this small sketch. The energy in a sketch is so different from a finished painting.
